Full Day Aswan, High Dam, Unfinished Oblisk, Philae temple

Start your day with an expert Egyptologist tour guide who will pick you up from your Dahabiya Cruise, hotel and take you on an unforgettable journey through Aswan’s most iconic attractions.

Philae Temple
Begin your adventure at the stunning Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis. Discover the fascinating mythology behind the temple, including the tale of how Isis resurrected her beloved husband Osiris and gave birth to Horus. This temple, originally constructed during the reign of Ptolemy II, was relocated to the small Agilika Island to protect it from flooding caused by the High Dam. Learn about the historical significance of the obelisks that once stood in front of the temple, now housed in a garden in Dorset, England, after being removed in 1918.

The High Dam
Next, visit the remarkable High Dam, an engineering marvel located on the border between Egypt and Sudan. Completed in 1968 and officially inaugurated in 1971, the dam protects Egypt from the annual floods of the Nile River. Standing at 111 meters high, 3,830 meters long, and with a base width of 980 meters, this structure is a symbol of Egypt’s modern engineering achievements. Its spillway has a discharge capacity of 11,000m³ per second.

The Unfinished Obelisk
Continue your exploration with a visit to the Unfinished Obelisk, one of the largest stones ever quarried by the ancient Egyptians. This obelisk, still attached to the bedrock, was abandoned due to fractures that appeared in its sides. Its sheer size provides valuable insight into how the Egyptians quarried hard granite for their monumental constructions, although the method they used to transport such heavy stones from Aswan to Cairo remains a mystery.

After a fascinating day of discovery, your tour will conclude with a comfortable transfer back to your hotel or cruise ship.
